Interview with The Big Bang Theory

April 29, 2012 Diversos
Entrevista com The Big Bang Theory

This interview was published on the series blog Guia de Seriados on April 28, 2012 (currently the news link is no longer available, so I reproduced the news here).

Hello everyone, my name is Remédio and I went to represent the Guide at press conference for the series The Big Bang Theory, which took place in on 4/5/2011, in São Paulo, and included the participation of Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg. To facilitate understanding of the text I will refer to the actors by their character names, which sounds more familiar to everyone. As for the images, just click to enlarge.

Due to some problems with our dear (argh) TB I was invited to I was in a hurry and that's why I wasn't prepared to write down questions and ask decent coverage. The few photos are from a camera I took borrowed on the run. (Editor's Note (TB): The press conference was at 11am, my car broke down at 8:30 am, I couldn't get another car in time, and when I saw this creature on MSN at 10:15 am and I thought “it’s you, you idler”, and I was happy he agreed)

Well, initially the chosen location was the Hotel Emiliano, very good by the way, and the organization of the event was very good, staff very polite and helpful. Arriving at the hotel, I entered the access ramp to the parking and I kind of did a tour until reaching the press conference room. It was a small room, for about 60-70 people, many bloggers were present.

The opening was very simple, being done by Elaine (woman sitting on the sofa on the left, in the photo above), from Warner, who announced them and soon after entry it was opened for questions. There wasn't a speech or anything similar neither on the part of the actors nor the production. The actors' entrance occurred with the opening song of the series being played in the background. When The actors entered and sat down on a sofa, where they would stay until the end. end of the press conference.

Remembering the sofa, there was a moment when a person made a question and ended with a simple one for Leonard about what Sheldon would think he was sitting in his place. At this moment Leonard makes that characteristic face of disapproval and moves a little towards the side, next to Howard, leaving an empty place at the end.

Questions not directly related to the series were blocked, including one that many of us would like to know, their position in relation to Chuck Lorre after the latest events related to Charlie Sheen. (Editor's note (TB): I passed this question for Remedio, but he didn't have the opportunity to introduce her, since someone else ended up being blocked first) After this question was blocked, Raj joked and said, with a serious expression on his face: “But who is Charlie Sheen?”. And after that they added: “We didn’t come to Brazil to talk about Charlie Sheen”.

As strange as it may seem, a question about which series actors watching was banned, as it did not make direct mention of the series. In There were moments when the actors would respond something, but they stopped because they received a signal that was not allowed or something like that.

Sometimes, Raj also joked that the previous night in São Paulo it had been great, and that he loved the city (despite it seeming to be sleeping in the photo above).

Howard also joked about him being too handsome for the series, that sometimes they asked him to be less handsome and such.

Many questions were asked, and many of them wanted to know if the actors felt more nerdy or geeky for being part of this type of show. They always responded that not much, that one or the other was more nerd, but they were normal, the nerd part of the series was behind, in the writers and consultants.

They were asked if they understood all the jokes, and they replied that sometimes not, that along with the text the writers had to explain why that was funny. And also that often the Writers/consultants themselves put some hidden jokes in the walls or on blackboards, at this point Howard also mentioned: “Sometimes consultants make a joke that their friends would laugh at, but Nobody here understands.”

I think the funniest question was whether, over the course of the series, someday Howard and Raj would admit their gay love… hahaha. They They denied it, they said it was a deep friendship and that it wouldn't go beyond that. Mostly Raj said no, Howard was just smiling.

They also made a comparison with the beginning of the series, in which everyone is single and are now finding their way out, would that change the situation a little? direction of the story, whether this was being forced or not and they responded who didn't, who saw it more as a natural course for the characters and something like relationships are always evolving.

Another question was about the beginning of the series being based on a more nerdy humor, with jokes related to science, comic books, fiction, and now that seems to have changed a little. The answer from Leonard was that he didn't see it that way, that there was still humor initial, that this humor is like the basis of the series and that it is behind everything, an answer confirmed by the other two actors.

They also commented on the beginning of the series itself, whether they thought would be this resounding success and how they saw themselves in this scenario. With Regarding the beginning, Raj said that reading the initial script, even though it was funny, I didn't expect a result like this, that being doing the series is very good, after all they are normal people, they are actors doing your job. Howard remembered his selection process, which was something as the second test pilot (that's what I understood) and that he arrived with the hair that was a hit in the series and also with one of his pants characteristics and then, after the rehearsal, the producer arrived and said “Wow, This is one of the nerdiest things I’ve ever seen!” Then Howard let out a to the audience as if he were on top: “But that’s exactly why that I came with her.” Haha ha.

Another question was related to the actors’ position in relation to the Emmy Awards and other similar awards, and if you would like to win one next Emmy. This was Raj who responded, he said that winning an award is always good, but their work is not done based on these awards, that they always work hard. And regarding the Emmys they would first need to be nominated, and again he said that the Awards are not what guide their work.

They also asked if we would ever see Howard's mother and they they said probably not, and Howard added that it would be very difficult to find someone to personify her, after all she would have to be fat, short, maybe a mustache, a huge belly, which would be better leave it to the imagination of the viewers.

After another question about how they feel compared to nerds, the Leonard responded that real nerds are the most successful in life real, such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and even Barack Obama.

The quietest one was Leonard, he seemed more serious too, despite the two others always made a joke about him and then the three they started to laugh.
At one point, Leonard laughed out loud when Howard compared Raj to a famous person from abroad (I don't remember who).

At the end of the event, all participants were invited to stay for lunch, but as I couldn't, I left. At the exit of the hotel met the actors outside and some people in a queue to take photos and receive autographs. At this moment it seemed to me to be free for the public to enter this queue. An interesting point that I saw and didn't Did you know that Leonard is a smoker?

Unfortunately, because I made a mistake, I didn't stay to take a photo with them, I just took some final photos of them.

As a gift, we were given a t-shirt that we've seen Sheldon wear many times. Sometimes, the Green Lantern shirt (for men) and for women was a shirt red, I couldn't see the print, but it's probably from Flash (all the t-shirts came in a strange round packaging). And also we received a CD with information about the series, but on this CD the interviews appeared to be between the third season finale and before from the beginning of Wednesday – probably interviews that will be available in the third season box extras.

Some other news outlets record the questions and answers in full, if you're interested.

Finally, I would like to thank TB for the opportunity, I enjoyed it enough, the actors seemed to be very “good people”, always smiling and joking. As a fan of the series I will never forget it.
